Building Performance Modeling

The purpose of this study was to gain an advanced understanding of the synergistic impacts of different building elements on the energy performance of a given building design case with a focus on HVAC system design analysis. The specific building elements that were explored via simulation were the opaque and transparent building enclosure materials as well as the HVAC system design. The building energy performance analysis was completed within DesignBuilder, which is a whole-building energy simulation program that utilizes EnergyPlus as a simulation engine to aid in the design and retrofit of buildings.
